Service Learning
We are a school community that is both committed to and passionate about making a lasting, positive contribution to the world.
A key part of our community service learning programme is to develop students’ global awareness of the immediate and wider world we live in, and our role within it, with the goal of ensuring that they are ready to take on the world as conscious, skilled, confident, well equipped and passionate global citizens.
At GIS, we cultivate and champion a culture of service-learning where learners engage with creativity and compassion to meet authentic needs in our local and wider community.
Our regionally recognised service-learning programmes offer opportunities for interaction and intercultural awareness. Our CCAs such as Reach Out refugee teaching promote the development of active citizens and the cultivation of creative and critical thinking skills.
Wherever possible, GIS Primary and Secondary students lead our charity initiatives. Through core annual events are the ‘Mufti’ Charity Week, Jeans for Genes Day, the Big Read, Urban Poor initiative and annual Discovery Week, we are able to support the work of our 5 core charities (Free Tree Society, Make a Wish Foundation, GIS Street Feeding, Dignity for Children and Global Environment Centre (GEC)).
We are immensely proud of our globally-minded students, and the sustainable support we give to the communities and projects we work with.
